"Theologia Socialis" Series

Series Presentation

Initiated in 2008, the Theologia Socialis series is generously hosted today by the young publishing house Eikon from Cluj-Napoca and it is edited with the support of the Romanian Institute for Inter-Orthodox, Inter-Confessional and Inter-Religious Studies (INTER). The series’ editors, those who actually form its scientific board, are: Radu Carp (Bucharest), Chantal Delsol (Paris), Ingeborg Gabriel (Vienna), Picu Ocoleanu (Craiova), Radu Preda (Cluj-Napoca). The series is illustrated with details taken from the works of the artist Silviu Oravitzan.

The Theologia Socialis series aims at providing the necessary place for a compulsory debate which was too long postponed in the post-communist Romania. It is about the social pattern, the community structures, the role of the religious confessions and civil society played in the reconstruction of a public space still visibly marked by half of a century of communist dictatorship and by the following two decades of chaotic transition. As the cultural-spiritual profile of Romania is marked by the Church of a majority, namely the Orthodox Church, the interest is focused especially on the way in which, theologically and practically, the ethos of the Eastern Christianity may encourage the process of thinking, may inspire the views and may determine the options of a population which declares itself religious in an overwhelming proportion but, at the same time, lives in a strongly alienated society. This approach is made in a permanent dialogue with the other historical religious cults in Romania and takes into consideration the historical experience of the European Churches and confessions.
